It is an easy thing to find some fabulous glittery, bejeweled or chiffon, wisp of a vintage dress, throw on heels, grab a clutch and head out for the evening. This premise — vintage for evening — probably accounts for the vast majority of what I post on the site. Finding pieces for day can be tougher and finding pieces that transcend day to the workplace can be even tougher — especially as you jaunt back through the decades. After all, the truth of the matter is that women just didn't have jobs like the ones women hold today. With the exception of the forties "power suits" you really don't see a ton of work wear that you can translate into the office of today's power women. And the work wear you do find tends to look — well a little dated. I hear this complaint all the time from girls who wear vintage in every other aspect of their lives. It's not that you can't find it at all — it's just a bit tougher to find and when you do find it, it presents a bit more of a styling challenge.
My solution? A sleek, taupe grey, neutral, knit 1970s Halston dress. When can you ever go wrong in Halston after all? Top it with a chic modern cape and add a pop of color with a unique clutch. Slip on a pair of sophisticated heels that are boardroom appropriate. Finally, add a chunky, manly feeling watch and viola. Simple, chic and powerful with just a touch of sexy. If that plunge is too low you could add a silk V-neck Tee under with the same lines and cut as the dress.
