It was snowy when I looked out the window this morning, so rather than cycling to work I took the tube. This in turn, meant that I had to pass by Boots the Chemist on the walk from the station to the office. As I hadn't put any perfume on before leaving the house, I took the opportunity to try something new. Like any good work colleague, I don't want to wear something obnoxious that's going to get up the nose of my co-desk buddies, so I passed by a few bottles of scent that I knew were going to be strong. Dior is a counter that can be relied upon if you want a chic scent. They do have a few honkers — but you have to really look.
Maybe I went too conservative though. Forever and ever by Dior is, no doubt about it, a lovely perfume, but possibly too safe. It smells of soap. And soap in turn reminds me of old ladies. It's just 'nice', not a statement, not sexy, not reminiscent of sunny days in the orange grove or shady days at the beach. It's just a clean smelling, soapy fragrance. But that's a large part of the problem with fragrance in general. I want to wear something that I can actually smell — rather than blending into the background. But it's a fine line between creating a pong and smelling great.
One of my current work colleagues wears Aromatics Elixir by Clinique — one of my all time favourite perfumes. I love the smell, but witnessing it on somebody else has shown me that it is incredibly strong and it's made me question whether I really want to smell in such an obvious way.
Forever and ever by Dior is for those days when you want to feel clean and fresh and you really want to blend into the crowd. If you've got a hangover and you want to cover it up; if you've had a late night and want to appear otherwise, or quite simply if you got up too late to have a shower and have got an important meeting then Forever and ever could be your go-to scent for the day.
