We have the most amazing Lanvin maxi dresses in the shop right now and both are from the 1971 collection! Jules-Francois Crahay was the head designer at Lanvin at the time. He was the designer at Nina Ricci from 1952-63 and then went to Lanvin where he headed the house from 1964-1984. He headed his own RTW line for a short couple of years until his death in 1988. He loved color and his designs were known for their youthful spirit and elegance. It is amazing that someone who worked for two of the largest French houses is virtually unknown. But remember that this is the days before the advent of the PR machines we have now. There where only a handful of designers know by name and even then it was merely a side effect of having their own house that bore it. He was known to adhere to the great traditions of Haute Couture and no stitch was left poorly executed. He was quoted as saying, when asked about his work, "Look at my dresses, they are what I have created and they are much more important then anything I can say"
Having two of them in my hand I can say that I would have to agree. Cheers to you Jules-Francois, cheers to you!
